In offset, if you are printing a job as 4 color process, your file should not have any spot colors included or they will have to be converted before printing. Only colors that you expect to have a separate plate made and specially mixed ink put in the press for that specific color should be set as a spot color. PANTONE colors may not match your PANTONE book after being converted to CMYK due to limitations of only using 4 ink colors. PANTONE sells a separate book that shows how each color converts to process. It will also tell you the CMYK values used to achieve the process match in the book. We recommend using this book if you have a color that concerns you. It is possible that the only way to achieve certain color is by printing it as a spot. Please communicate with your customer service representative or salesperson if you require a color to be printed as an extra unit on the press or have concerns.
In Digital print, spot colors can be used to get a better match of that color by linking it on the press to specified desired result. If you have a color that always gives you problems, Drummond can set up a “color match” on the Digital presses to ensure consistency of that color. Please communicate with your customer service representative or salesperson to get a color match set up for your digitally run print work on concerning colors. All other spot colors will be converted to CMYK before printing.
